WalkMe Guidelines

Guidance for the use of WalkMe in Seller Applications across Dell Technologies

These WalkMe guidelines are still being reviewed. Style and recommended usage are subject to change.

Overview

WalkMe is a third-party digital adoption and training application.

In Dell Seller applications, WalkMe can only be used for new feature announcements, onboarding, training and training effectiveness surveys.

WalkMe components have been styled to adhere to the Dell Design System guidelines. This styling applies regardless of the application in which WalkMe is being used.

Any instructions, tool-tips or messaging related to permanent bugs or ongoing usability issues should be implemented via IT and in line with the design system relevant to the tool in question.

Non-standard WalkMe Usage

As WalkMe requires the installation of a browser plugin, it may not be visible to all users. For this reason, WalkMe should never be used for critical messaging.

In Dell Seller applications, WalkMe should only be used for new feature announcements, training and user onboarding. It should not be used to replace the native contextual information or informational messaging of sales tools.

Intent: Provide temporary messaging to inform users of an ongoing issue while it is being fixed.

For short-term workaround for issues which do not affect critical functionality and will not result in loss of work or affect sales productivity, WalkMe messaging can be implemented using iconography and inline styles which mimic native tool styles (i.e. Dell Design System or Salesforce Lightning Design System).

In this case, the design team of the relevant tool should be engaged in order to advise on the most appropriate component.

Additionally, an IT intake should be created and included in the request for WalkMe implementation, along with an expected end date for the WalkMe messaging.

Component Styles

In general, WalkMe components should reference the core styles for Buttons, Modals and Popovers from the Dell Design System. View the Adobe XD prototype for more detailed views of redlines and styles or download the Adobe XD file for use in prototypes.

When guided feature tours are implemented with navigation, a modal overlay can be included on the page to facilitate a highlight of the relevant page section or component. This does not apply to interactive Walks.

Shout Out

Usage: New feature announcement which requires user confirmation or action.

DDS Component: Modal

Selecting outside of a modal (on the tinted background) to close it is an optional feature, but discouraged because users who are accustomed to advertisements appearing in modal overlays may instinctively close them before looking at their content.

WalkMe Colours

Color is used to create a stronger connection with our brand, define interactions and aid in way finding. Visit the Dell Brand Guidelines and Dell Design System information on colour for more details.

Many of the Dell-approved colours have been reserved for branding, messaging components and communicating state (e.g. success and errors). The WalkMe component colours have been chosen to ensure consistency with the Dell Design system, while also providing contrast against the typical colourschemes used in the different Dell Sales tools.

Non-standard WalkMe Usage

There are limited cases in which WalkMe can be used to recreate Salesforce Lightning styles, e.g. for temporary and urgent communication to users about a tool error which does not critically impact the sales process.

In these scenarios, refer to the Lightning Design system resources listed below and contact the design team for more detailed guidance.
